Cosmetic osteopathy and facial asymmetry

The cause of facial asymmetry is not always in the face. Osteopathy treats the body as a whole and looks for the root of the problem.

Many patients who present with facial asymmetry turn to plastic surgeons without knowing the real cause. Yet the cause of facial asymmetry may be directly linked to asymmetry of the body. Because problems such as kyphosis and scoliosis cause an imbalance in the spinal column, this effect spreads throughout the whole body — even up to the face.

Stress, injuries and postural problems can also cause facial asymmetry. Osteopathic techniques address these causes by working with the soft tissues, the nervous system and the bones.

Unlike injections or device-based cosmetology, cosmetic osteopathy produces longer-lasting effects.

When should you consider it?

  • Facial asymmetry
  • Temporomandibular joint dysfunction
  • Tension after cosmetic nose surgery (rhinoplasty)
  • Facial problems of cervical (neck) origin
