Neck tension is not always linked only to disease. Sometimes the cause hides in our daily habits: a poor sleeping position, looking at the phone for long periods, incorrect sitting posture.
Over time, this tension may compress the nerves and lead to headaches, insomnia, numbness in the arm and even vision problems.
1Conditions that cause neck pain
- Degenerative disc disease

- Tension in the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle
- Sudden temperature changes caused by air conditioning
2The harms of cracking your neck
- Wear of the joints and cartilage tissue, with a long-term risk of osteoarthritis
- Nerve compression — pain, numbness, restricted movement
- Compression of the major blood vessels in the neck — dizziness, risk of stroke
- Ligament damage and loss of neck stability
