Kyphosis

Excessive backward curvature of the spine in the thoracic region — a rounded, hunched posture.

Kyphosis is a postural disorder and is most often caused by a prolonged sedentary lifestyle and weak lower back and upper back muscles.

What lies at the root of postural disorders?

  • Weak muscles
  • Shortened fasciae
  • Faulty movement patterns

The exercises in the video may temporarily reduce muscle tension. But remember: kyphosis is not just a matter of tension — there is no full recovery without a thorough investigation of the cause.

Comprehensive treatment of kyphosis at ELF Center

Osteopathy improves the mobility of the spine, releases tense muscles and tissues, and improves nervous system function and circulation. Electrotherapy and physical modalities strengthen weak muscles and remove restrictions in movement. Massage therapy, breathing exercises and postural training complete the program.

In a normal spine, the thoracic and lumbar curves balance each other. In kyphosis the thoracic curve is excessive, and in hyperlordosis the lumbar curve is excessive (red).
