Do dairy products prevent osteoporosis?

Cheese, yogurt and milk — the widely held belief on this subject is not always correct.

Author: Dr. Elfana Suleymanova Medically reviewed

The idea that dairy products completely prevent osteoporosis is an oversimplification. Bone health does not depend on calcium intake alone.

Bone strength requires calcium absorption, vitamin D levels, magnesium balance, hormonal status and — most importantly — mechanical loading, that is, movement. Even if calcium is taken, if the digestive system does not absorb it properly or the bones are not being loaded, the expected effect is not achieved.

We look not at where the pain is, but at where it comes from.
